religiously idiotic...
this post will NOT be political. yeah, the republikans are religiously idiotic and religious idiots, but that is not my point tonight. i need to vent.
i came home from work and doing work on my new apartment (at 2:20am) to find some moron with new jersey plates blatantly blocking my driveway, and partially blocking the shared driveway of two of my neighbors. there was a sign in the car basically saying "sorry, but due to religious observances for sukkhot (or whatever the hell holiday it is) we cannot move the car thursday or friday. sorry for the inconvenience."
what kind of crap is this? if you're observing a religious holiday which prohibits you from moving your car, the LEAST you could do is be considerate of others' rights. this is arguably the RUDEST thing i have EVER experienced, parking-wise, in my lifetime. i don't care WHAT religion you're observing, it gives you NO right to be this inconsiderate. i'm sure your god would understand if you had to drive a little bit over the "holiday" instead of being disrespectful to others. it is NO EXCUSE. it's too bad that street cleaning will be suspended, because i would love to see that car ticketed and stickered when i wake up in the morning to try to find a new spot for my car (i'm currently parked at a meter).
of course, i left a note right back at them, which i will replace if need be, that says "it was very 'RELIGIOUS' of you to block the driveways of THREE HOUSES for two days. you should have considered that."

Uh, Ralph, isn't your girlfriend very religious and yet a Democrat? And, I'm a Republican and not at all religious. So, wouldn't your attacks make more sense if you didn't know at least two people that prove them wrong?
um, "anonymous," :) there are exceptions to every rule. i didn't say "all republikans are religiously idiotic," i said "the republikans are religiously idiotic." it's a generalization, not a requirement. are all democrats raging liberals? no. i, in no way, implied that you HAD to be a religious zealot to be a republikan... but many are. plus, consider alternate meanings too. i like to say multiple things with the same statement, such as "the republikans are religious in their idiocy" :)
the converse, "all religious zealots are republikans," is not equivalent to its original statement; therefore, your comment about my girlfriend's religiousness/democratness being contrary to my claim is logically false.
i watched a brief bit of o'reilly's tv gig last night (i wanted to catch his presumably self-righteous rant about the lawsuits) and saw two priests arguing over whether or not it is a SIN to vote for kerry - and they were practically fighting with each other! they were both citing some papal ruling(?) about the "proportionality" of sin when choosing a candidate. one said abortion is above all proportionality, the other said bush has done so much wrong otherwise that his stance on abortion can't begin to make up for it.
many people voted for bush primarily based on a religious principle - the abortion issue. he's gone to great lengths to "play up" his christianity, while he has probably been the least ethical and moral president since nixon. any president who would allow easy access to automatic weapons - after a 10-year ban which every statistic shows worked - can't be considered moral. before you get in a huff, if he was so supportive of the ban, why didn't he make sure it was renewed?
i am so thankful for clinton. if we didn't have a good president for 8 years, we'd really be screwed by now.
i should also add what happened after that night. i left a longer note next to my brief note, telling them how they disrespected their god by disrespecting me (using some very nice "we're all god's creatures" logic). within 10 minutes of leaving the note, someone came out to move the car. i caught her, and gave her an earful and a half. let's just say that she will never park on this side of the street again! hehehe ;)
